New Digs' Aquaponics System Adds 60 Goldfish
Stratford Northwestern's New Digs program is happy to announce the introduction of 60 goldfish into its new aquaponics system. The aquaponics system has been in the works for close to 2 years, and is now operational. New Digs student Matthew Whittemore regularly tests water quality for pH, dissolved oxygen and nitrate levels.
The next phase of the system will be to introduce plants, starting with different varieties of lettuce. These seeds are propagating now, and will be put into the system next week.
The aquaponics system, located in the Northwestern Greenhouse, is the first of a number of projects in the works for New Digs. This includes updating and upgrading our hydroponics lab to incorporate several different types of growing systems, installing vertical grow towers as well as gearing up for our regular winter greenhouse food production!
