Husky Swimming Wins Huron-Perth Championship; Win 3 Events at WOSSAA and qualify 4 swimmers for OFSAA
Congratulations to the Huskies Swim team for bringing home the Overall High School Huron Perth Swimming Title. The Huskies scored a total of 183 combined points finishing just 9 points ahead of Central Huron and 16 points ahead of Stratford Central. To give an idea of just how close this victory was, a first place finish in one race is worth 9 points.
All 13 swimmers who competed earned points towards this title which makes it even more special as it took everyone's efforts to bring the banner home.

Reece Douglas - 2nd 50m Breaststroke and 3rd 100m Freestyle
Maggie Sheardown - 3rd 100m Backstroke and 5th 50m Freestyle
Nicole Dunn - 3rd - 200m Freestyle and 8th 100m Freestyle
David Dickson - 4th 50m Backstroke
Julia Dixon - 5th 100m Freestyle
Lauren Douglas - 6th 100m Freestyle and 6th 100m Breaststroke
Joel Lovelace - 6th 100m Freestyle
Deanna Smart - 6th 100m Backstroke

2nd - Women's 400m Free (Maggie, Nicole, Julia, Deanna) - 6:47.26
4th - Sr. Girls 200m Free (Nicole, Julia, Deanna, Lauren) - 2:50.78

Congratulations to the Huskies Swim Team for winning 3 WOSSAA events and qualifying for OFSAA in a total of 4 events.
The Sr. Girls 200m Medley team of Maggie Sheardown, Mia Dickson, Emma Gaffney-Ladd and Natalie Ropp won in a school record time of 2:26.82, finishing just over 4 seconds ahead of the second place team from East Elgin.
The Sr. Girls 200m Freestyle team of Dayle Riehl, Natalie Ropp, Mia Dickson and Emma Gaffney-Ladd won in a school record time of 2:11.35, finishing only 1.3 seconds ahead of Catholic Central.
Emma Gaffney-Ladd also set two individual school records, winning the individual 100m Backstroke in a time of 1:18.24 and finishing 5th in the 50m Butterfly in 33.98 seconds. Both of these performances were fast enough to qualify for OFSAA. Emma is the first Husky swimmer to qualify for OFSAA in 4 events in the same season.
Natalie Ropp finished 3rd in the 50m freestyle event in another school record time of 31.81 seconds with Mia Dickson finishing in 4th in the same event in 31.87 seconds. Both missed OFSAA by a mere 0.56 and 0.62 seconds.
Maggie Sheardown, Dayle Riehl and Julia Dixon also swam personal best times in the 50m freestyle finishing 11th, 13th and 36th.
The team will be travelling to the OFSAA Championships in Toronto March 4th - 6th.
